Crockpot Cola Chicken

Crockpot Cola Chicken

Everyone loves a good glass, can or bottle of cola. Sure, you may argue whether the proper term is pop or soda. I think it’s pop, but I am originally from Michigan. We say pop. My husband, also a Michigander, has mysteriously decided to start calling it soda. He somehow thinks that because we now live in a “soda state” that we must, I repeat must, go with the flow and use their terminology. Meh. I’m sticking with pop, so are my kids. As the mom, I figure my duties include vocabulary so pop it is. Has a little more zip to it than soda, don’t ya think?! So-da… nope, can’t do it.

You may even argue about Coke or Pepsi. I used to prefer Coke but now lean a little towards the Pepsi side. There is a difference, that’s for sure.

One thing is certain. No one can argue that Chicken cooked in the cola of your choice is not super yummy. In fact, it tastes a little like a sweet version of BBQ chicken.

Just grab the nearest crock pot and throw in:

1 whole chicken (rinsed, about 3 lbs.)

1 cup of the cola of your choice, even Dr. Pepper will work here

1 cup of ketchup

1 large white onion, sliced into thin rings

Rinse the chicken and pat dry; place in crockpot. Sprinkle liberally with salt and pepper.  Cover with thinly sliced onions. Pour cola and ketchup over the top of everything. Cover and cook on the lowest setting for 6 to 8 hours. Await the ooohs and aaahs!
