Cola Ham | Who Knew You Could Do That With Cola

Cola Ham | Who Knew You Could Do That With Cola

"Be sure to serve this to your family with your favorite homemade scalloped potatoes recipe."
OK. So there are some weird recipes with cola out there and there are some REALLY weird ones. This is one of the latter.
I mean, cola is something sweet to drink. Meat is not generally meant to be sweet. Putting the two together is strange, if not downright odd. Yet, it works. It really does. The recipes out there on the net are varied. Some require Coke, others Pepsi or Rock and Rye. Some insist on a slow cooker or crock pot, while others suggest the oven or even the grill. Some even get fancy and add pineapple or cloves. It doesn’t matter. However you do it, the ham will be awesome!

The version I cook the most requires:
¼ cup of cola (your choice)
½ cup brown sugar (dark or light, your choice)
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 ham, 3-4 pounds (the pre-cooked kind)

Mix the first three ingredients together until it is a paste; save any extra cola. Score the ham lightly all over. Rub the paste into the ham. Place ham and any extra cola into the crock pot and cook on high for 1 hour. Turn temperature down to low and cook an additional 7 hours.

Be sure to serve this to your family with your favorite homemade scalloped potatoes recipe. It just begs to sit on the plate next to a few slices of this ham. And, of course, leftovers make for a great side at breakfast the next day. That is, if there are any.
